Hi, I’m Lilly!

I am a data warehouse engineer at Divert Inc. in Concord, MA, where I have been since May 2022. Most of my work is the unglamorous and genuinely interesting kind: keeping data systems standing up while the company grows underneath them, and building the pipelines that let other teams answer questions they could not answer before.

What I work on

A particularly fun project has involved processing GPS information to give real-time asset status. It is the sort of problem where the data is messy, the volume is relentless, and the answer has to be current to be worth anything.

The rest of it looks like this. I have scaled our data systems to keep up with company growth, with minimal to no downtime through scale-ups, migrations, and major pipeline rewrites. I have led greenfield data projects for teams facing urgent asset management problems, integrating new sources without quietly sacrificing accuracy. And I write the documentation and support the people who have to use any of it, because a data system nobody can navigate is not finished.

Before Divert

I graduated from Brandeis University in 2020 and started at Karen Clark and Company, where I built RESTful APIs, set up centralized logging into ElasticSearch and Kibana, and led the move from Team Foundation version control to Git and GitHub. I enjoyed maintaining and improving existing projects as much as designing greenfield ones, and I pushed for the shift from a single monolithic desktop application toward a more flexible microservice architecture.

Away from the job

Recently I have been experimenting with my at-home workflow across various flavors of Linux. I am not too overzealous about any of them, don’t worry. tmux, neovim, self-hosted services on vultr, and a lot of open source projects. The less clicking and the more typing the better.
